Even when she got into the top ten back in 1988 with the acid house remix of Downtown, no one could have accused Pet Clark of being trendy. Back in her 1960s heyday, with such hits as I Know a Place and Don't Sleep in the Subway, she was seen as more showbiz artiste than groovy chick. These days she's regarded as a national treasure, thanks to triumphs such as her definitive Norma Desmond in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. A complex and dignified figure,she chats to Johnnie Walker about her new Best Of collection and forthcoming shows.
