  • The Ad
    (Raymond Bernard-David Newburge)
Father puts an ad on the personal page
The print is black and clear
    Saying Mary please write
Please don't drop out of site
    Mary, we love you dear
    Mary, we want you here
Oh, Mary, why did you disappear?

Mother sits at home by the telephone
Her tears won't cease to flow
    Praying Mary will call
But there's no call at all
    Mary, where did you go?
That's all we want to know
Oh, Mary, call us and say hello

    Meanwhile in the city
    Mary looks pretty
    eating an ice cream cone
    With her childhood past
    She's free at last
And making it on her own
Jimmy puts an ad on the personal page
    He can't believe they're through
    Darling, I was so blind
    But I'm changing my mind
    Mary I'll marry you
Just like you want me to
We'll do whatever you want to do

When the ads are in and the type is set
    The printer makes a plate
Then it goes off to press
    Will the ad bring success?

    Jimmy can hardly wait
    Mother is in a state
They still don't know that it's much too late

Mary, the escaper, picks up a paper
    Reads what the columns say
Walking through a crowd she laughs out loud
    And tosses the sheet away
    (laughter)

As If We Never Said Goodbye
    (From SUNSET BOULEVARD)
    (Webber-Black-Hampton-Powers)
    I don't know why I'm frightened
I know my way around here
The cardboard trees, the painted seas,
    the sound here
    Yes a world to rediscover
But I'm not in any hurry
    And I need a moment

    The whispered conversations
    In over-crowded hallways
The atmosphere, as thrilling here as always
    Feel the early morning madness
Feel the magic in the making
Why everything's as if we never said goodbye

    I've spent so many mornings
    Just trying to resist you
I'm trembling now you can't know how
    I've missed you
    Missed the fairy-tale adventures
    In this ever spinning playground
    We were young together

    I'm coming out of make-up
    The lights already burning
Not long until the cameras will start turning
    And the early morning madness
And the magic in the making
Yes everything's as if we never said goodbye

I don't want to be alone
    That's all in the past
    This world's waited long enough
    I've come home at last

And this time will be bigger
And brighter than we knew it
So watch me fly we all know I can do it
Could I stop my hand from shaking?
Has there ever been a moment
With so much to live for?

    The whispered conversations
    In over-crowded hallways
So much to say not just today but always
    We'll have early morning madness
We'll have magic in the making
Yes everything's as if we never said goodbye
Yes everything's as if we never said goodbye
    We taught the world
    New ways to dream

Ballad of a Sad Young Man
    (Landsman/Wolf)
Sing a song of sad young men
    Glasses full of rye
All the news is bad again
    Kiss your dreams goodbye

    All the sad young men
    Sitting in the bars
    Knowing neon nights
    And missing all the stars

    All the sad young men
    Drifting through the town
    Drinking up the night
    Trying not to drown

    All the sad young men
    Singing in the cold
    Trying to forget
    That they're growing old
    All the sad young men
    Choking on their youth
    Trying to be brave
    Running from the truth

While a grimy moon watches from above
All the sad young men play at making love
Misbegotten moon, shine for sad young men

    Let your gentle light
    Guide them home again
    All the sad young men

    Call Me
    (Tony Hatch)
If you're feeling sad and lonely
    There's a service I can render
Tell the one who loves you only
I can be so warm and tender

Call me, don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me and I'll be around

When it seems your friends desert you
    There's somebody thinking of you
I'm the one who'll never hurt you
Maybe that's because I love you

Call me, don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me and I'll be around

    Now don't forget me
    'Cause if you let me
I will always stay by you
    You gotta trust me
    That's how it must be
There's so much that I can do

If you call I'll be right with you
You and I should be together
Take this love I long to give you
I'll be at your side forever
Call me, don't be afraid, you can call me
Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me and I'll be around

    instrumental bridge

Call me, don't be afraid, you can call me

Maybe it's late, but just call me
Tell me and I'll be around

You gotta call me, call me now

    The Cat In The Window
    (The Bird In The Sky)
    (Gordon/Bonner)
    Fly away, fly away

There's a cat in the window
And he's watching all the birds go passing by
He'd love to fly out the window
    Go where the wind goes
    And so would I

Like that cat in the window
Who keeps wishing for some wings to take a ride
I'd love to glide to a rainbow
Off where the clouds go dancing by
    And if I could fly
You wouldn't find me hangin' around
    Watching the birds go by
Yes, the cat in the window
Has a tear in his eye
I should leave today, fly away
Why, oh, why should I stay?

Like the cat in the window
    Who keeps watching the birds
    Go by from my window
    If I could fly though

    You won't find me
    Don't even try to

    Colour My World
    (Trent/Hatch)
You'll never see a dark cloud
    hanging 'round me
Now there is only blue sky
    to surround me
There's never been a grey day
    since you found me
    Everything I touch
    is turning to gold

    CHORUS:
So you can colour my world
    with sunshine yellow each day
Oh you can colour my world
    with happiness all the way
Just take the green from the grass
and the blue from the sky up above
And if you colour my world
just paint it with your love
    Just colour my world
Just as long as I know
    you're thinking of me
    There'll be a rainbow
    always up above me
    Since I found the one
    who really loves me
    Everything I touch
    is turning to gold

    CHORUS

    Sunshine yellow, orange blossom
    Laughing faces everywhere, yeah

    CHORUS
    Just colour my world
    Colour my world
    Oh, colour my world

    Cross The Border
    (Petula Clark/Siegfried Fietz)
They say love goes where the stream flows
    Love will cross the border
And if love shows us the way...maybe
    The desert will bloom again.

I dreamed I was in Africa
    beneath a cloudless sky
No food to feed my family,
No strength in me to cry

    IT was only a dream
thank GOD it won't come true
    But the suffering I've seen
keeps haunting me through and through

But if love goes where the stream flows
    Love can cross the border
And if love goes all the way...maybe
Their suffering will not be in vain

    I've seen the people searching
for an answer to their pain
I can still hear them praying
for the rains to come again

    And they're willing to learn
    if we're willing to teach
    Deep beneath the earth
there is water within our reach

They say love goes where the stream flows
    Love will cross the border
and if love goes all the way....they'll see
    That land growing green again

They say love goes where the stream flows
    Love can cross the border
And if love goes all the way....maybe
    The desert will bloom again.

    Don't Give Up
    (Hatch/Trent)
When love seems to let you down
When you can't turn around and run
You've got to stop and face the fact
That the heartaches have just begun
Because you need love, you need love
Keep on till you know that you've won, yeah!

    CHORUS:
Don't give up, don't let it get you down
Don't give up, don't think of leaving town
Don't give up, don't run away from it
Love will be yours in the end, my friend
When someone is on your mind
And you can't find the words to say
Don't put off until tomorrow, my friend
What you know you've gotta do today
Because you need love, you need love
And in time you'll discover the way, yeah!

    CHORUS

    Instrumental bridge

You know you need love, you need love
Keep on till you know that you've won, yeah!

    CHORUS (repeat)

    Don't Sleep In The Subway
    (Hatch/Trent)
You wander around on your own little cloud
When you don't see the why or the wherefore
You walk out on me when we both disagree
'Cause to reason is not what you care for

I've heard it all a million times before
Take off your coat, my love, and close the door

    CHORUS:
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'
Don't stand in the pouring rain
But don't sleep in the subway, darlin'
    The night is long
    Forget your foolish pride
    Nothing's wrong
    Now you're beside me again
You try to be smart, then you take it to heart
'Cause it hurts when your ego is deflated
You don't realize that it's all compromise
And the problems are so overrated
Goodbye means nothing when it's all for show
So why pretend you've somewhere else to go

Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'
Don't stand in the pouring rain
But don't sleep in the subway, darlin'
    The night is long
    Forget your foolish pride
    Nothing's wrong
    Now you're beside me again

    CHORUS
Don't sleep in the subway, darlin'
Don't stand in the pouring rain
But don't sleep in the subway, darlin' . . .

    Downtown
    (Tony Hatch)
    When you're alone
and life is making you lonely
    You can always go -
    Downtown

    When you've got worries,
all the noise and the hurry
seems to help, I know -
    Downtown

    Just listen to the music
of the traffic in the city,
    Linger on the sidewalks
where the neon signs are pretty

    How can you lose?

The lights are much brighter there,
You can forget all your troubles,
Forget all your cares, and go

    Downtown
    Things'll be great when you're -
    Downtown
No finer place for sure -
    Downtown
    Everything's waiting for you -
    (Downtown)

    Don't hang around and
    let your problems surround you,
    there are movie shows -
    Downtown

    Maybe you know
some little places to go to
    where they never close -
    Downtown
    Just listen to the rhythm
    of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with 'em too
    before the night is over

    Happy again

The lights are much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles,
forget all your cares, and go

    Downtown
Where all the lights are bright -
    Downtown
    Waiting for you tonight -
    Downtown
You're gonna be alright now -
    (downtown)

    instrumental bridge

And you may find somebody kind
    to help and understand you,
Someone who is just like you
and needs a gentle hand to
    guide them along

So maybe I'll see you there
We can forget all our troubles,
forget all our cares, and go

    Downtown
    Things'll be great when you're -
    Downtown
    Don't wait a minute more -
    Downtown
    Everything's waiting for you -
    (Downtown)

    Downtown, downtown,
    downtown, downtown . . .

    (From The Sound of Music)
    (Landsman/Wolf)
    Edelweiss, edelweiss
    Every morning you greet me
    Small and white

You look happy to me, to me

Blossom of snow, may you bloom and grow
    Bloom and grow forever
    Edelweiss, edelweiss

    Eternally
    (Chaplin/Parsons)
    I'll be loving you eternally
With a love that's true, eternally

From the start within my heart
    It seems I've always known
The sun would shine when you were mine
    And mine alone

    I'll be loving you eternally
There'll be no one new my dear, for me, no
    Though the sky should fall
    Remember I shall always be
Forever true and loving you eternally

    For Love
    (Al Grant)
Just hang on to your heart
And when you feel you've found
The one and only one to give it to
There'll be nothing you won't try to do
    For love

    You can't believe it now
But one fine day you'll see
That everything I say is coming true
And there'll be nothing you won't try to do
    For love
He'll want to show you the world of his dreams
And his kisses will open the doors
There you will find only wonderful things
And these wonderful things will be yours
    For love

    instrumental bridge

Well, there'll be nothing you won't try to do
    For love
There'll be nothing you won't try to do
    For love
    For love
    For love
    For love

    Goodnight Sweet Dreams
    (Weinstein/Stroll)
    In the blindness of creation
    In a multitude of crimes
    Where there's no communication
In a message filled with rhymes

    Down a green embroidered stairway
Through a manhole in the wall
Left to wallow in the sewers
    Hearing echoes down the hall

    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Don't you know the mighty sun is dawning
    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Let me wake up to the pureness of the morning
    Sweet dreams are gone again

    Stranded high upon a tower
    In a nonexistant town
    Fighting vertigo in color
And there's no way to come down
    Someone rings an elevator
    And he offers you escape
And you fall into a classroom
    Where you fail attempted hate
    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Don't you know the mighty sun is dawning
    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Let me wake up to the pureness of the morning

    Sweet dreams are gone again

Hearing music that was written by a giant feather pen
And forgetting all the changes when I whistled it again
Then I suddenly remember in the boredom of the day
I was dreaming of awaking when the music slipped away

    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Don't you know the mighty sun is dawning
    Goodnight
    Sweet Dreams
Let me wake up to the pureness of the morning

    Goodnight

    Happy Heart
    (Hans Last/Jackie Rae)
    There's a certain sound
    always follows me around
    When you're close to me
    you will hear it

    It's the sound that lovers
    finally will discover
    When there is no other
    for their love

    CHORUS:
It's my happy heart you hear
    Singing loud and singing clear
    And it's all because you're
    near me, my love

    Take my happy heart away
    Make me love you
    Make my day
In your arms I want stay,
    Oh my love
    Feeling more and more
    like I've never felt before
    You have changed my life
    so completely

    Music fills my soul now
    I've lost all control now
I'm not half, I'm whole now
    with your love

It's my happy heart you hear
    Singing loud and singing clear
    And it's all because you're
    near me, my love

    Take my happy heart away
    Make me love you
    Make my day
In your arms I want stay
    Oh my love

    It's my happy heart
Don't you hear my happy heart
    Love
    Believe me
    It's my happy heart

    Here For You
    (Petula Clark)
    If we never meet again
    like a simple sweet refrain
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you

When your life seems dark and cold
and you need a dream to hold
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you

And now the time has come
    to say goodbye
    nothing seems to rhyme
    running out of time
and out of words to say

So, I will simply tell you
other smiles may turn you on
but when all the smiles are gone
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you

When the pain is all you see
close your eyes and think of me
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you
    If we never meet again
    sing this simple sweet refrain
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
and I'll be here for you

    And remember when you're gone
special things live on and on
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you

la, la, la, la, la, la, la
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
    I'll be here for you
    just you

So, take my hand and promise me
    you will keep this memory
la, la, la, la, la, la, la
and I'll be here for you

    Just keep smiling through
    every time you do
    I'll be here for you

    Here We Are
    (Sturiale/Harman)
    Here we are
    And aren't they all surprised?
No one thought we'd make it through
People looked at us and analyzed
But the one thing they all missed
From the moment we first kissed

You filled a place in my heart
Healed a space in my heart
Where love had left a scar

You took my future in hand
Led me to a new land
Who dreamed we'd get this far
    And here we are

    Here we are
Just as you said we'd be
    Having left the storm behind

Funny how things look so differently
When the sky above you clears
And you've seen beyond your fears
You filled a place in my heart
Filled a space in my heart
Where love had left a scar

And you showed me sights in the skies
    Blazing lights in the skies
Where no one saw a star
    And here we are

You showed me sights in the skies
    Blazing lights in the skies
Where no one saw a star
    And here we are
    Standing tall
    Hand in hand after all

    After all we've been through
Who dreamed we'd get this far
    And here we are
    Here we are
    Here We Are
    Here We Are,
    Here We Are

I Couldn't Live Without Your Love
    (Hatch/Trent)
You're the only one that I rely on
A shoulder there for me to cry on
And the hours alone that I'm without you
All I ever do is think about you

No one knows that you're so understanding
Even though my love is so demanding
    Everytime you look at me
Then you'll know we'll both agree
That no other love could be

    CHORUS:
I couldn't live without your love
Now I know you're really mine
I gotta have you all the time

Didn't like you much when I first met you
But somehow I couldn't quite forget you
Said you didn't want a friend or lover
That your life was happy with another
But as time went by my love grew stronger
Knew that I just couldn't wait any longer
For I couldn't let you go
And I had to tell you so
That I loved you, then you'd know

    CHORUS

    instrumental bridge

Now the tears are gone and I'm not cryin'
When you say you love me you're not lyin'
So when people want to stare
    I know I don't really care
Just as long as you are there

    CHORUS

    I Know A Place
    (Tony Hatch)
Every day when the work is behind you
And the shop and the store
put the lock on the door
    Just get away
where your worries won't find you
If you like, well I'll tell you more

Don't let the day get the better of you
    When the evening comes
    there's so much to do
You better put on your best
    and wear a smile
Just come along with me awhile -
    'Cause I tell you -

    CHORUS:
    I know a place
    where the music is fine
And the lights are always low
I know a place where we can go

    At the door
there's a man who will greet you
    Then you go downstairs
    to some tables and chairs
    Soon I'm sure
    you'll be tappin' your feet
Because the beat is the greatest there
All around there are girls and boys
    It's a swingin' place -
    A cellar full of noise
    It's got an atmosphere
    of its own somehow
You gotta come along right now -
    'Cause I tell you -

    CHORUS

    instrumental bridge

Well, all around there are girls and boys
    It's a swingin' place -
    A cellar full of noise
    It's got an atmosphere
    of its own somehow
You gotta come along right now
    'Cause I tell you -

    CHORUS

I know a place where we can go
I know a place where the lights are low
You're gonna love this place I know
I know a place where we can go

    I Will Wait for You
    (Legrand/Gimbel)
The clock will tick away the hours one by one
And then the time will come when all the waiting's done
The time when you return and find me here and run staight
    To my waiting arms

    If it takes forever
    I will wait for you
    For a thousand summers
    I will wait for you
    Till you're back beside me
    Till I'm holding you
Till I hear you sigh here in my arms

    Anywhere you wander
    Anywhere you go
Every day, remember how I love you so
    In your heart, believe
What in my heart I know
That forever more I'll wait for you

    Happy Heart
    (Hans Last/Jackie Rae)
    There's a certain sound
    always follows me around
    When you're close to me
    you will hear it

    It's the sound that lovers
    finally will discover
    When there is no other
    for their love

It's my happy heart you hear
    Singing loud and singing clear
    And it's all because you're
    near me, my love

    Take my happy heart away
    Make me love you
    Make my day
In your arms I want stay,
    Oh my love

    Feeling more and more
    like I've never felt before
    You have changed my life
    so completely
    Music fills my soul now
    I've lost all control now
I'm not half, I'm whole now
    with your love

It's my happy heart you hear
    Singing loud and singing clear
    And it's all because you're
    near me, my love

    Take my happy heart away
    Make me love you
    Make my day
In your arms I want stay
    Oh my love

    It's my happy heart
Don't you hear my happy heart
    Love
    Believe me
    It's my happy heart

    I Never Do Anything Twice
    (Sondheim)
When I was young and simple
    I don't recall the date
I met a handsome captain of the guard
He visited my chambers one evening rather late
In tandem with a husky Saint Bernard

    At first I was astonished
And tears came to my eyes
But, later when I asked him to resume
    He said, to my surprise
    My dear, it isn't wise
Where love is concerned one must freshen the bloom

Once, yes, once for a lark
    Twice, though, loses the spark
    One must never deny it
But after you try it you vary the diet

    Said my handsome young guard
Yes, I know, but it's hard
    But no matter how nice
    I never do anything twice

La la da da de-ah da dum

    I think about the baron
    Who came at my command
And proffered me a riding crop and chains
    The evening that we shared
    Was meticulously planned
He took the most extraordinary pains
    He trembled with excitement
    His cheeks were quite aglow
And afterword he cried to me, encore!

He pleaded with me so to have another go
    I murmured carressingly, whatever for?

Once, yes, once for a lark
    Twice, though, loses the spark
    Once, yes, once is delicious
    But twice would be vicious
    Or just repetitious
    Someone's bound to be scarred
Yes, I know that it's hard
    But, no matter the price
    I never do anything twice

La la la la la la la la la la

And then there was the abbot
    Who worshipped at my feet
Who dressed me in a wimple and in veils
    He made a proposition which
    I found rather sweet
And handed me a hammer and some nails

    In time we lay contented
    And he began again
By fingering the beads around our waists
    I whispered to him then
    We'll have to say amen
For I had developed more catholic tastes

Once, yes, once for a lark
    Twice, though, loses the spark

As I said to the abbot
I'll get in the habit, but not in the habit
    You've my highest regard
And I know that it's hard
    Still, no matter the price
    I'd never do anything twice

Once, yes, once can be nice
    Love requires some spice
    If you've something in view
Or something to do, totally new
I'll be there in a trice
But I never do anything twice

    Except . . . No
    I never do anything twice

I Wanna See Morning With Him
    (Wine-Levine)
I wanna see morning with him, yeah
I wanna see morning with him

No, I'm not made of stone
And I'm not about to send him home, oh no

Tonight we're gonna see the sunshine
    And I'm gonna love him
Though I'll fight him for a little while
Then I'll smile as he wins my heart away
Lips pressed on lips until the break of day

And I, I'll be so happy when I
Wake up and see morning with him
I'm gonna see morning with him
Tonight we're gonna see the sunshine
    How I'm gonna love him
But I'll fight him for a little while
Then I'll smile as he wins my heart away
Lips pressed on lips until the break of day

    And I, I won't be happy 'til I
Wake up and see morning with him
I'm gonna see morning with him

Ooh, in the morning with him

    (Stole/Del Roma/Altman/Gimble)

    I must follow him
ever since he touched my hand I knew
That near him I always must be
And nothing can keep him from me
    He is my destiny

I love him, I love him, I love him
And where he goes I'll follow, forever and ever
And side by side together I'll be with my true love
And share a thousand sunsets, together, beside him
    I will follow him
follow him wherever he may go
There isn't an ocean too deep
A mountain so high it can keep, keep me away

    If Ever You're Lonely
    (Endrigo-Bardotti-Mason)
    Look at me
I can see there's no love in your eyes
    Though you try to pretend
    Look at me
Aw, there's no need to explain how you're feeling
    I guess it's the end

    And when you go
I will try not to cry as you kiss me goodbye
    You'll never know
How much I'll miss you so

    If ever you're lonely
    If ever you're blue
    If ever you need me
    I'm waiting for you
And though your love has gone
    You're still the only one
    So if ever you're lonely
    I'll run straight to you

    Now as you walk away
    Remember what I say
    If ever you're lonely
    I'm lonely like you

    In my heart
For some time I have known deep inside
    You have somebody new
    But my heart
    Will still want you forever
Although it is broken in two
    You're not to blame
No, go be happy with her
And if one night you whisper my name
    Come to my arms again

    If ever you're lonely
    If ever you're blue
    If ever you need me
    I'm waiting for you

And though your love has gone
    You're still the only one
So if you're lonely I'll run straight to you, yeah

    Now as you walk away
    Remember what I say
    If ever you're lonely

    Just Say Goodbye
    (Clark-Hatch-Delanoe)
    Just say goodbye
    And let me walk away
    There's nothing more to say
When love like ours can die

    Just say goodbye
    Forget the life we knew
    The memories of you
    Will only make me cry

    Just say goodbye
To leave me on my own
    To face the world alone
    Yet never knowing why

    Just say goodbye
And though I don't know how
    I couldn't hate you now
    No matter how I tried

    Just say goodbye
It's sad that you must go
You loved me once I know
    This much I can't deny
    Oh, my love
    My only love
    Where did we go wrong
    Oh, my love
    My only love
    How can I
Oh, how can I go on

    Just say goodbye
It's sad that you must go
You loved me once I know
    This much I can't deny

    Just say goodbye
    And please don't turn around
    Another love you've found
Now, spread your wings and fly

    Kiss Me Goodbye
    (Mason/Reed)
We choose it, win or lose it
Love is never quite the same

Don't feel bad, you're not to blame

So kiss me goodbye and I'll try not to cry
All the tears in the world won't change your mind
There's someone new and she's waiting for you
Soon your heart will be leaving me behind

Linger awhile, then I'll go with a smile
Like a friend who just happened to call
For the last time pretend your are mine
    My darling, kiss me goodbye
I know now, I must go now
Though my heart wants me to stay
    That girl is your tomorrow
    I belong to yesterday

So kiss me goodbye and I'll try not to cry
All the tears in the world won't change your mind
There's someone new and she's waiting for you
Soon your heart will be leaving me behind

    Let It Be Me
    (Curtis-Becaud-Delanoe)

    I find complete love
    Without your sweet love
    What would life be
    So never leave me lonely
Tell me you'll love me only
    And that you'll always
    Let it be me

    And that you'll always
    Let it be me

    The Little Blue Man
    (Ebb/Klein)
One morning while I was out shopping,
though you'll find it hard to believe,
a little blue man came out of the crowd
and timidly tugged at my sleeve.

    Chorus
I wuv you, I wuv you, said the little blue man,
I wuv you, I wuv you to bits,
I wuv you, he loved me, said the little blue man, and scared me out of my wits.

I hurried back to my apartment,
I rushed in and I closed the door,
but there on my desk stood the little blue man,
who started to tell me once more.

    Chorus...I wuv you
For weeks after that I was haunted, though no one could see him but me,
right by my side was the little blue man,
    wherever I happened to be.

    Chorus....I wuv you

    One evening in wild desperation,
I rushed to a rooftop in town
and over the side pushed the little blue man,
who sang to me on the way down,
    I wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuvvvvv yoooooooooo.

I whispered thank goodness that's over, I smiled as I hurried outside,
but there on the street stood the little blue man,
who said, with a tear in his eye,
"I don't wuv you any more."

    Love is a Long Journey
    (Petula Clark)
Love is a long, long journey
And on a long, long journey
    There are things that happen
    We just can't foresee

    So when you say forever
    Although you mean forever
    There's a voice inside me
    Saying this can't be

But when you hold my hand
You know I feel so grand
I mean I feel that we could beat this mystery
And I believe with all my heart
I believe, oh yes, I believe

But love is a long, long journey
And on a long, long journey
    There are things that happen
    We just can't foresee
    So when you say forever
    Although you mean forever
    There's this voice inside me
    Saying this can't be

    When you say forever
    Although you mean forever
    There's this voice inside me
    Saying this can't be

But when you say that it's true
    I start believing you
And then the spell, you see
    Begins to work on me
    And I believe
    With all my my heart
    I believe
    Oh yes, I believe

    My Love
    (Tony Hatch)
    CHORUS:
My love is warmer than the warmest sunshine
    Softer than a sigh
My love is deeper than the deepest ocean
    Wider than the sky

My love is brighter than the brightest star
    That shines every night above
And there is nothing in this world
That can ever change my love

    Something happened to my heart
the day that I met you
Something that I never felt before
You are always on my mind
    no matter what I do
And every day it seems I want you more
    CHORUS

Once I thought that love was meant
    for anyone else but me
Once I thought you'd never come my way

how wrong we all can be

Why do all the stars fade away
Why are shadows hiding the sun
Why do I have nowhere to run

    Gone, gone, gone away

Where are all the dreams that we knew
Whoever said dreams all come true
    Where are they now
Why must life go on anymore
Why do I want you more and more
Why do I go on asking why

The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener
    (Hatch/Trent)
Life is never what it seems
We're always searching in our dreams
To find that little castle in the air
When worry starts to cloud the mind
It's hard to leave it all behind
And just pretend you haven't got a care

There's someone else in your imagination
You wish that you were standing in their shoes
You'd change your life without much hesitation
But would you if you really had to choose?

So, don't look around, get your feet on the ground
It's much better by far to be just who your are

    Chorus:
The other man's grass is always greener
The sun shines brighter on the other side
The other man's grass is always greener
Some are lucky, some are not
Just be thankful for what you've got
Many times it seems to me
There's someone else I'd rather be
Living in a world of make-believe
To stay in bed till nearly three
With nothing there to worry me
Would seem to be the life I might achieve
But deep inside I know I'm really lucky
With happiness I've never known before
And just as long as you are there beside me
I know that I could ask for nothing more

And living can start with the love in your heart
So with you all the time
All the treasures I've longed for are mine

The other man's grass is always greener
The sun shines brighter on the other side
The other man's grass is always greener
Some are lucky, some are not
But, I'm so thankful for what I've got

    On the Path of Glory
    (Clark-Shaper)
Blessed are the meek they say
They shall win where others lose
But when man is forced to slay
He is never asked to choose

He must fight for his country
Fight for what he thinks is right
He'll defend his wife and children
    On the path of glory

Red or yellow, white or brown
All alike, one thought in mind
Who will wear the victor's crown
Never mind the lame and blind

In the pride of their country
Good will triumph in the end
Evil will be brought to justice
    On the path of glory
Big or little, fat or thin
All are heroes in the end
    Unforgivable the sin
    To submit, they don't pretend

They will die for their country
They will die for you and me
Amid the pungent smell of death
That's on the path of glory

Why should man be forced to kill
Why should they be made to die
    Shattered on some peaceful hill
Torn and bleeding where they lie

    Far away from their country
    Ask yourself the question now
Why should they be forced to set out
    On the path of glory?

    On With the Show
    (Clark-Shipman)
When I think about all I've done and how little I had
When I first started out to make good
And the times were so bad
All I owned I could hold
In one battered old secondhand case
    As I traveled each mile
A professional smile on my face
    Going tired and wet
To yet one more forgettable place

    On with the show
On with the show, I don't know why
    But it's so
    And on with the show
On and on and on with the show

I was never a child 'cause when you're poor
You've got to work like a man
For to eat you must earn
The rest you learn when you can
    Every day, every night
Is a fight when you're hungry and broke
On the road, play a part
Sing a song, tap a dance, tell a joke
Break your heart for a smile
    For a crumb
    An occasional smoke
    On With the show
On with the show, I don't know why
    But it's so

    And on with the show
On and on and on with the show

Then one night, there you are
    Your name's up there
    And you're a star
Last week the audience ignored you
    Now they adore you
    They're waiting for you
    On and on and on

    On with the show
On with the show, I don't know why
    But it's so

    And on with the show
    On and on and on

    On with the show

    Romeo
    (Stolz/Kennedy)
    I studied Shakespeare
    when I was at school
    thought Romeo was a pet
    Felt if I met him
    I'd act like a fool
    I'd be a poor Juliet

    Now that I know him
    I'm not really sure
boy you're as charming as he
    Saying the same things
    to all the girls
or is it just to me

    Romeo,
why am I so in love with you
    Romeo,
is it you or the things you do
    I've been yours
from the moment you said hello
    Are you mine
    or just only my Romeo

    I studied Shakespeare
    when I was at school
    thought Romeo was a joy
    I liked the true way
    he loved Juliet
just my ideal of a boy

You know I like you as my Romeo
that's how I want you to be
but if you're out on some other date
can you be true to me

    Romeo,
why am I so in love with you
    Romeo,

'round every corner, 'round every corner

When Columbus sailed away to other shores
How could he imagine all that waited for him?

Around every corner, around every corner
Around every corner, around every corner

    Leave all the blue days
    think about the new days
'round every corner, 'round every corner

    Everything is yours now
    open all the doors now
'round every corner, 'round every corner

Man will soon be standing on the moon above
Just imagine all the things that he'll discover
Around every corner, around every corner
Around every corner, around every corner

You've gotta stop a-sittin' there on the shelf
You've gotta start lookin' there for yourself, yeah

Around every corner, around every corner
Around every corner, around every corner

    What's the use in crying?
    Happiness is lying
Around every corner, around every corner

And if you want a true love
    look for a new love
Around every corner, around every corner

Just forget the worries that you leave behind
There are many things to do and you can find them

'round every corner, 'round every corner
'round every corner, 'round every corner
'round every corner, 'round every corner
'round every corner, 'round every corner

    Seize the Day
    (Lawrence Goldberg)
How many times do you ask yourself
"What can I do to bring about a change?"
It's too hard a task yourself
The world's too large to rearrange
But if each one played a part, the greater heart
Would rise up and take wing, and accomplish
    most anything

Seize the day, life is made of precious moments
Don't delay and waste the chance each one of us is given
If you stray, remember you can always be redriven
Seize the day, for time is slipping away

How many times do you tell yourself
That you can make a difference if you try
    Only to sell yourself
    An inexpensive alibi
    It's easy to equivocate, procrastinate
And never take a stand, while the problems
    grow out of hand0.

Seize the day, life is made of precious moments
Don't delay and waste the chance each one of us is given
If you stray, remember you can always be redriven
Seize the day, for time is slipping...
    Away so fast
Open your eyes and a year has passed
And in that year what have you done?
The war is waiting to be won but

How many times do you hide yourself
And fail to help another soul to live?
    If only you'd pride yourself
In the power of the positive
It's common just to be confined in the daily grind
Forgetting that a dream may be closer than it may seem

Seize the day, life is made of precious moments
Don't delay and waste the chance each one of us is given
If you stray, remember you can always be redriven
Seize the day, seize the day, for time is slipping away

Let us pray each one of us sees the day
    When lives won't slip away

    A Sign Of The Times
    (Tony Hatch)
It's a sign of the times
That your love for me is getting so much stronger
It's a sign of the times
And I know that I won't have to wait much longer

    You've changed a lot somehow
from the one I used to know-oh-oh
For when you hold me now
ya' feel like you never wanna to let me go

It's a sign of the times
That you call me up whenever you feel lonely
It's a sign of the times
That you tell your friends that I'm your one and only

    I'll never understand
    the way you treated me-ee-ee
But when I hold your hand
I know you couldn't be the way you used to be

Maybe my lucky star at last decided to shine
    Maybe somebody knows
how long I've waited to make you mine, mm-mm

    instrumental bridge
    I'll never understand
    the way you treated me-ee-ee
But when I hold your hand
I know you couldn't be the way you used to be

Maybe my lucky star at last decided to shine
    Maybe somebody knows
how long I've waited to make you mine

It's a sign of the times
That you kiss me now as if you really mean it
It's a sign of the times
And a year ago I never could have seen it

    Don't ever change your mind
    and take your love away-ay-ay
    Just leave the past behind
and baby only think of how it is today

    It's a sign of the ti-imes
    It's a sign of the ti-i-i-i-imes
It's a sign of the times
    It's a sign of the ti-i-i-i-imes

It's a sign of the times

    The Theatre
    (Petula Clark)

    It's a funny thing,
    the theatre,
when you stop and think of it.
    The comedy, the drama,
when your're striving for the hit.

I mean, the idea of an audience
and an actor on the stage.
Well, don't you think it's rather
    funny
    watching someone earn his wage?

    There's something about the theatre
though I'm not sure what it is.
    It's surely not the money
or the thing they call "show biz".

We hear about the magic of the theatre,
    fantasy
quite unlike the movies or the telly.
    I agree.

I love going to the theatre,
sitting right there, where you are
    watching my favorite actor
or the birth of a new star.

    All those magic evenings
    with Lloyd-Webber or the Bard,
    an old play by whoever,
    something new by Tom Stoppard.

And the musicals of Bernstein, Hammerstein,
    and Sondheim are so sublime
that sometimes I wish they'd never end.

The best way to go to the theatre
is right there, through the stage door.
I leave the world behind me
like a mantle on the floor.
And, oh, the sweet relief to know
at least for the next few hours
    I'll know the plot
and in these times that's quite a lot.

    And everybody knows their lines
and who they are and where they stand.
    It's grand.

Unlike the world outside these doors.
the homeless that the world ignores,
    the violence, the poverty,
the things we cannot help but see,
    including our own inadequacy
    to somehow make it right.

    I can't forget the things I've seen
and all the places that I've been.

    I can't forget,
    some haunt me yet.
    The millions of refugees
and my anger will not let me sleep
and when my grief becomes too deep, I sing.
    Yeah, I sing.

    I sing along with friends,
we sing and try to make amends
    for some of life's insanity
and in the name of charity
we beg for money on the stage.
We smile and try to hide our rage.
    We try to help.
I know that you do too.
    Most of us do.

So, here we are in this hallowed place,
sharing a special time and space.
    I hadn't realized before,
but maybe that's what the theatre is for,
    to bring us together,
to make us see that the magic
    is not just some fantasy.
Though we all need some fantasy.
No, the magic is here, in you, in me.
It's a funny thing, the theatre.

    This Is My Song
    (Charles Chaplin)
Why is my heart so light?
Why are the stars so bright?
Why is the sky so blue
Since the hour I met you?

    Flowers are smiling bright
    Smiling for our delight
    Smiling so tenderly
For the world, you and me

I know why the world is smiling
    Smiling so tenderly
It hears the same old story
    Through all eternity
    Love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you
    The world cannot be wrong
If in this world there is you

I care not what the world may say
Without your love there is no day
So, love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you

    instrumental bridge

So, love, this is my song
Here is a song, a serenade to you

The Wedding Song (There Is Love)
    (Paul Stookey)

(Performed by Paul Stookey, The Lettermen,
    Petula Clark, Captain & Tennille)

He is now to be among you
at the calling of your hearts
    Rest assured this troubadour
    is acting on His part

The union of your spirits here
    has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you
    are gathered in His name
There is Love, there is Love

Well, a man shall leave his mother
and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where
the two shall be as one

As it was in the beginning
is now and til the end
Woman draws her life from man
    and gives it back again
There is Love, there is Love
Well, there must have been a reason
    for becoming man and wife
Is it love that brings it here,
or Love that brings you life?

(Is it law that brings you here,
or Love that gives you life?)

For if Loving is the answer,
    then who's the giving for?
    Do you believe in something
    that you've never seen before?
    Oh, there is Love,
    Oh, there's Love.

Oh, the marriage (union) of your spirits here
    has caused Him to remain
For whenever two or more of you
    are gathered in His name
There is Love, there is Love.

The first context of this song is for a couple being
married. The underlying idea is much more general.
It can be said in different ways:

Whenever two or more unite in a common purpose,
a synergy exists so that the whole is greater than
    the sum of the parts: 1 + 1 = 3 or 10 or 100!

Anytime two or more are bound together by love,
    God is present.

When two or more aspire to the same higher goal,
    magic touches them all.

    Who Am I
    (Hatch/Trent)
The buildings reach up to the sky
The traffic thunders on the busy street
    Pavement slips beneath my feet
I walk alone and wonder "Who am I?"

I close my eyes and I can fly
And I escape from all this worldly strife
    Restricted by routine of life
But still I can't discover "Who am I?"

I long to wake up in the morning and find
    everything has changed
And all the people that I meet don't wear a frown
But every day is just the same
I'm chasing rainbows in the rain
All the dreams that I believe in let me down
Maybe I'm reaching far too high
For I have something else entirely free
The love of someone close to me
Unfettered by the world that hurries by
To question such good fortune, who am I? I long to wake up in the morning and find
    everything has changed
And all the people that I meet don't wear a frown
But every day is just the same
I'm chasing rainbows in the rain
All the dreams that I believe in let me down

Maybe I'm reaching far too high

To question such good fortune, "Who am I?"

    You'd Better Come Home
    (Tony Hatch)
    You'd better come home
    and stop your running around
    You'd better come home
and get your feet on the ground
'cause I won't share my love with anyone new

    You'd better be smart
you've gotta make up your mind
    Stop breaking my heart
    and leave the others behind
'cause I won't share my love whatever I do

    The love that I give
for as long as I live will be yours
And nothing can change the way that I feel
So baby come back to me (baby come back to me)
Baby come back to me (baby come back to me)
Love me like you did before

    You'd better come home
and see the damage you've done
    You'd better come home
because you've had all your fun
And I won't share my love with anyone new
    No, no
    The love that I give
for as long as I live will be yours
And nothing can change the way that I feel
So baby come back to me (baby come back to me)
Baby come back to me (baby come back to me)
Love me like you did before

    You'd better come home
and see the damage you've done
    You'd better come home
because you've had all your fun

    You'd better come home

    You're The One
    (Clark/Hatch/Aber)

Every time we meet, everything is sweet
Oh, you're so tender, I must surrender
My love is your love, now and forever

You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreamin' of
Baby, you're the one that I love

Keep me in your heart, never let us part
Ooh, never leave me, please don't deceive me
I want you only, you must believe me
You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreamin' of
Baby, you're the one that I love

I adore you and no one before you
could make me feel this way
Since I met you I just can't forget you
I love you more each day
    instrumental bridge

There may be some tears through the comin' years
Ooh, all the while I know you'll be smilin'
Your love will guide me through ev'ry mile 'cause

You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreamin' of
Baby, you're the one that I love

    Thirty-First of June

Tears roll down my cheeks, can't you see them glisten?
I've tried to talk to you but you just won't listen
And though I wait each day and hope and pray
your love will come on soon,
its as far away as the thirty-first of June

You pass me by each day but you just don't know me
I know there's something there but you never show me
You're always on my mind and yet I find
    I'm reaching for the moon
You're as far away as the thirty-first of June
There is nothing in the world that I want more
than to share my life with you
'cause I know I've never felt like this before
and I only wish you knew

I know the day may come when we're both together
If we could only start, it would be forever
Maybe these dreams of mine will break in time
    just like a toy balloon
and I'll be waiting here till the thirty-first of June
You're as far away as the thirty-first of June
Yes, you're as far away as the thirty-first of June

    When I Was a Child
    (Clive Westlake)
When I was child, not so long ago
Life was full of make believe, toys upon the floor
Living in a world, everything was new
Lollipops and rainbows, picture books and glue

And summer days were long and the skies were always blue
When nothing seemed to matter then, not even you
Growing old was far away, so many things to do
When I was a child the days went by
I didn't count them all, did you?

Then the time went on, I grew up so fast
Then I found my young girl's dream
    coming true at last
    For I fell in love
I fell in love with you
And I'm just as happy now
    Childhood days are through
When I see our children's toys upon the floor
I still remember when I was a child once more
    Nothing really changes now
For life goes on the same
'Cause when I was a child the only difference is
    that it's a bigger game
than when I was a child

When I see our children's toys upon the floor
I still remember when I was a child once more
    Nothing really changes now
For life goes on the same
'Cause when I was a child the only difference is
    that it's a bigger game

    The World Song
    (Petula Clark)

Hey, don't you think it's time that we had a party
Wouldn't you agree we all need a good time
We could have the neighbors in for a drink
and lay a little food on too

    You could ask the Joneses
    I could ask the Thompsons
    Stuart from the store
    and don't forget the Johnsons
And what about the man who stands on the corner
He must have a tale or two to tell

Wouldn't it be nice to buy out the Fillmore
and fill it with our friends
and then if there's still more room
We could ask the folks from the City
To come along and feel at home
And if the ragged gypsy danced with the soldier
Think of all the things the soldier could learn
And think of all the things the doctor could tell the priest

There's a story to be told
    Listen
Sounds so new, in truth, its old
    Listen
Hey, maybe we should give an open invitation
We could have a friend from every single nation
We could ask the friends to bring along a friend
Anyone who wants to come will be welcome
Anyone who wants to make with the music
is going to be allowed to play what he wants to
Anyone who wants to sing us a song can bring us a song
and sing it if he wants to
Maybe we could hear the voices of China
    Sharing a harmony with Carolina
Africa could take the bass with the Asians
    Melody promotes our east-west relations
Russia and the USA would be singing
Everybody's bells and hearts would be ringing
We could get the song to go on forever
If everybody in the world sang together

There's a meaning oh so clear
    Listen
Notes as old as life is dear
    Listen

Maybe we could hear the voices of China
    Sharing a harmony with Carolina
Africa could take the bass with the Asians
    Melody promotes our east-west relations
Russia and the USA would be singing
Everybody's bells and hearts would be ringing
We could get the song to go on forever
If everybody in the world sang together, hey

Oh we could make such sweet music together
If you come with your heart in your hand

    Though it's here before me
And say it's just a dream
    Say it's just a scene

From an old movie with Marilyn Monroe

    Say it's just some clowns
    Two players in the limelight
    Bring the curtain down

    Say it's just two clowns
Who couldn't get their lines right
And say it's just a show on the radio
That we can turn over and start again
That we can turn over, it's only a game,
Won't you tell me it's not true
    Say I only dreamed it
    Morning will come soon

    And say it's just pretend
    Say it's just the end
Of an old movie from years ago
From an old movie with Marilyn Monroe

Tell me, won't you tell me it's not true
    Say you didn't mean it
    Say it's just pretend
Say it's just the end of an old movie from years ago

    The Little Shoemaker
    (Parsons, Korb, Turner, Phillips/Revil)

In the shoemaker's shop this refrain would never stop
As he tapped away, working all the day
(At his bench, there was he, just as busy as a bee)
Little time to lose for the boots and shoes

But his heart went "pop" inside the little shop
When a lovely girl set 'em all a-whirl
She had come to choose some pretty dancing shoes
And he heard her say in a charming way

Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
    Dancing, dancing all the day
Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
    Dancing all my cares away

(Then he tapped and he stitched for his fingers were bewitched)
And he sewed a dream into every seam
(Making shoes, oh, so neat just like magic on her feet)
And he hoped she'd know that he loved her so

But she danced, danced, danced as though she were entranced
Like a spinning top all around the shop
On her dainty feet she whirled into the street
And he heard her say as she danced away

Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
    Dancing all my cares away
Shoes to set my feet a-dancing, dancing
    Dancing all my cares away

    Starting All Over Again
    (Petula Clark & David Hadzis)

    Starting All Over Again
Recreating a dream we once knew
Going back to a time that has drifted away
It won't be that easy to do
Through the tears and the anger and pain
The illusions we had and then lost
All the questions that still go unanswered today
Were the lessons we learned worth the cost?

    Well, I still believe
If we go where the Spirit leads
    It will take us to
Just where we're supposed to be
It's a chance we must seize
Let's get up off our knees
    Take a stand
We can make it happen hand in hand. . .
We'll be Starting All Over Again
With a dream that the whole world can share Only this time we'll built it so safe and so strong We will build with compassion and care
And our sorrow will not be in vain
Just as long as the dream stays alive
We will cherish it always and keep it from harm
We will make it our reason to strive
We will make it our reason for starting all over again
         (Orchestra)
This could bring out the best in us all
Recognising the wrong from the right
This could be the beginning of something so fine
If we follow the Love and the Light
We'll be starting all over again
    This time. . .
    Starting All Over Again
